Church Covenant

    CHURCH COVENANT - March 10, 2014

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with the church’s purpose, doctrine, and polity, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with this church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to do the following:

1.    I will protect the unity of my church
    a.    By acting in love toward other members (Rom 14:19) So then, we must pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another.
    b.    By refusing to gossip (Eph 4:29) No foul language is to come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.
    c.    By following the leaders as they follow God (Heb 13:17) Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

2.    I will share the responsibility of my church
    a.    By praying for its growth (1 Thes 1:1-2) Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy: To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace. 2 We always thank God for all of you, remembering you constantly in our prayers.
    b.    By inviting the unchurched to attend (Luke 14:23) Then the master told the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and lanes and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.
    c.    By warmly welcoming those who visit (Rom 15:7) Therefore accept one another, just as the Messiah also accepted you, to the glory of God.

3.    I will serve the ministry of my church
    a.    By discovering my gifts and talents (1 Pet 4:10) Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.
    b.    By being equipped to serve by my pastors (Eph 4:11-12) And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,
    c.    By developing a servant's heart (Phil 2:3-4,7) Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. 4 Everyone should look out not ⌊only⌋ for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form,

4.    I will support the testimony of my church
    a.    By attending faithfully (Heb 10:24-25) And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, 25 not staying away from our ⌊worship⌋ meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
    b.    By living a godly life (Phil 1:27) Just one thing: Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or am absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, working side by side for the faith ⌊that comes from⌋ the gospel,
    c.    By giving regularly (Lev 27:30) Every tenth of the land’s produce, grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
